West Ham United could rival Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, according to a report.
Sancho is widely expected to depart Old Trafford in the January transfer window following his well-documented fallout with manager Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old claimed that he had been made “a scapegoat” in a social media post after Ten Hag publicly stated said that poor performances in training were behind the Englishman’s absence for a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal in September.

Sancho has since been exiled from Man United’s first-team squad and training facilities after refusing to apologise to Ten Hag, and there seems to be no sign of a reconciliation between the pair.

The winger has made a total of 82 appearances in all competitions for Man United, scoring 12 goals, since completing his £73m transfer from Dortmund in the summer of 2021, and he still has over two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

A recent report claims that Dortmund have opened initial talks with Man United to discuss the possibility of re-signing Sancho on loan for the rest of the season.

Fellow Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart have also been credited with an interest in Sancho, but Dortmund appear to be leading the race for the winger’s signature at present.

BVB could face competition from West Ham, though, as the Daily Mail claims that the Hammers are one of a number of clubs ‘monitoring’ Sancho’s situation.

However, the report states that David Moyes’s side are reluctant to recruit the winger on loan until the end of the season, while the player’s £250,000-a-week wages would be a stumbling block.

Sancho’s future at Man United could depend on the decisions made by INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently purchased a 25% stake in the club and must allegedly be consulted on all transfer decisions before anything is finalised.

The prospect of Sancho remaining at Old Trafford appears to be slim, and the winger’s only hope of staying put could be is Ratcliffe, who will be granted full control of the club’s footballing operations once his 25% purchase is ratified, decides to sack Ten Hag.

During his successful four-year spell in Germany, Sancho scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists in 137 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions.

West Ham’s alleged interest in Sancho, who last scored for Man United in May last year, comes at a time when the future of Said Benrahma is believed to be uncertain amid reported interest from the likes of Fulham and Lyon.
