JOHANNESBURG – Former President Thabo Mbeki says the narrative that government ignored Eskom’s warning to invest in new infrastructure is false.

Mbeki says the people in charge of Eskom, at the time, failed to replenish coal at the power stations.

Ever since that day in January 2008, South Africa has remained in the dark with constant rolling blackouts.

Mbeki who was speaking to students at UNISA, blamed the power utility managers and people who wanted to benefit from Black Economic Empowerment deals for the ongoing electricity crisis.
