The 18-year-old defender just joined Brentford last year, and he has spent all his time with the Brentford junior team

Nigeria defender Benjamin Frederick has been named in Brentford’s squad for the first time ahead of their FA Cup clash against Wolves on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Frederick was one of the best players from the 2023 Under-20 World Cup, where Nigeria finished were knocked out in the quarterfinal.

The 18-year-old played four of Nigeria’s games at the World Cup and was sturdy. He was quite astute and gave attackers a tough time.

After the tournament, English Premier League club Brentford swooped in for Frederick. However, they signed him for their team B on a one-year loan.

Frederick has been working with the B team since he joined, but he has finally gotten his breakthrough.

Brentford have revealed their squad for their round of 64 game against Wolves in the FA Cup, and Frederick was included.

The tie promises to be a tough one, as both teams are equally matched. They met in the Premier League on December 27, and Wolves were ruthless, demolishing Brentford 4-1. So, it is unlikely that Frederick will start.

However, coach Thomas Frank may decide to give Frederick a run-in if Brentford are in a comfortable position.
