Seven years. That’s how long it will have been since the South African athletics team last won a medal at a major championship when Team SA arrives at Paris 2024.

There was something fitting about the changeover between Benjamin Richardson and Clarence Munyai in the 4x100m relay at the World Championship resulting in the baton crashing to the ground along with South Africa’s last chance of winning a medal in Budapest this year.
