Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thokozani Sekotlong is preparing for life after football after registering as a student at the University of Pretoria.

Sekotlong is now preparing to go for his second year at the University of Pretoria after completing his first-year course in Sports Science.

The Tshwane-born midfielder is still pursuing his soccer career and is currently registered with Motsepe Foundation outfit University of Pretoria, who currently sit second on the standings

Sekotlong has taken advantage of the opportunities provided by the University of Pretoria and seemingly wants to kill two birds with one stone.

“Football is a short-term career and I am taking advantage of what has been provided by the University of Pretoria. I am getting old and it’s good to start to look at other avenues. I wish I could have done this earlier,” Sekotlong tells KickOff.

“School is very important. It doesn’t only keep your mind busy but also helps build your knowledge and create options. It can help you find another career, come up with business options, and other things in life”. “So far, it has been good. I am registering for my second year in January and hope will do well again,” he added.

The former Chippa United midfielder also participated in the USSA football tournament held at the University of Western Cape in December last year. Sekotlong helped the University of Pretoria to win the tournament and qualify for the Varsity Cup tournament this year.

“As a student, I qualified to play. The university didn’t play in the Varsity Cup last year. The University of Pretoria is big and was important that we qualify this year”, Sekotlong added.
