President Cyril Ramaphosa admitted it has been a bleak year for most South Africans in his New Year’s message.

“It has been a difficult year for many South Africans,” said Ramaphosa in a statement released on Sunday.

“Yet, despite the many challenges that our country is facing, we do have cause for hope and optimism.
