Well, it looks like 5G is finally ‘free of charge’ for mobile users in Malaysia.

As announced by Comms Minister Fahmi Fadzil on his official X account, there will not be extra charges imposed by telcos in order to connect to DNB’s 5G network while urging everyone to join the fast lane, but as vague as this announcement is without any further details, a quick check on Digi’s website at this point of time reveals that the telco hasn’t removed its ‘5G Booster’ from its Digi NEXT Prepaid page.

So far, most telcos except for CelcomDigi has made 5G access free of charge albeit with some FUP such as limiting hotspot quota, the former has the worse and most confusing 5G postpaid plans we have ever seen and they even impose on a speed cap depending on the plan you go for, hence Fahmi will really have to come clearer on what he meant by ‘no charges’, as CelcomDigi is still penalizing users for using its 5G network with limitations despite not having any extra charges.
