Kenneth Ryan and his son, Kale, were swept away by the recent floods in Ladysmith.

Christmas will never be the same for Zenedene Brooks after her brother, Ladysmith resident Kenneth Ryan, and his two young children were swept away during heavy flooding earlier this week.

Ryan, 43, and his children, Brooklyn Malaton, 9, and Kale Malaton, 3, lived in the Ladysmith Caravan Park. The area was hit by the torrential showers that battered much of the province over Christmas, causing flooding, death and destruction.

Speaking to News24 on Saturday, Brooks said she got a call from Ryan on Sunday evening around 22:30. The call, however, only lasted 25 seconds.
