Khama Billiat is a Zimbabwean professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

He also plays for the Zimbabwe national team.

Billiat says that the Kaizer Chiefs snub by the Motaungs made him a better player, and it is now indeed evident with the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder’s recent clean sweep at the Premier Soccer League Awards on Monday.

Billiat, who won three awards on Monday including the Footballer of the Season award, says he has no hard feelings for being snubbed by Chiefs earlier in his career.

The playmaker, together with fellow Zimbabweans, Knowledge Musona and Thomas Sweswe, were under the Chiefs radar but Amakhosi only decided to sign the two and left Billiat out in the cold, saying he was not ready at the time. But Billiat has since gone from strength to strength.

“It made me a better player. I look at it in this way: Knowledge Musona is going to play there, which means I’m closer and I might be the next one, so I kept on going and that was the motivation.

“Knowledge was motivating me, telling me how beautiful it is this side (in the PSL) and how nice football can be – talking to him was just a motivation,” said Mamelodi Sundowns star.
