The ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) have offered President Jacob Zuma an amnesty package of R2 billion to step down from office.
According to the Daily Maverick, a faction within the African National Congress (ANC), which is backing Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa for the ANC presidency, has offered to raise R2 billion for Zuma in exchange for his cooperation.
The money was being raised to offer R2-billion to Zuma if he agreed to step down, with the condition that he was not to be prosecuted for any of his alleged crimes.
The arrangement will also see the president expunged of any criminal charges.
The ANC went into its fifth national policy conference under a cloud of allegations of state capture and continued calls for the president to step down by some party members and veterans.
This deal would apparently see Zuma R2 billion richer, the over 700 corruption charges against him erased and no jail time.
An ANC source said that the Zuma problem had now become so large that “historic imagination” was required.
