The Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula promised the country that he will not rest until he nabs those involved in the murder of former ANCYL Secretary General Sindiso Magaqa.

As Promised, the Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for the murder of Magaqa.

Magaqa, a councillor at the Umzimkhulu municipality on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast died in a Durban hospital two weeks ago after being shot multiple times in July.

The Police said the 38-year old man who lives at the KwaMashu Hostel has been arrested in connection with Magaqa’s death.

Last month, the man was also arrested following a shootout with police along the N2.

It is alleged that he was one of a gang of men involved in a foiled cash heist on the N2, between Harding and Kokstad.

Investigations and forensic evidence linked the man to Magaqa’s shooting and which led police to charge him with Magaqa’s death. He is due in court soon.

Magaqa was recovering at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters who served together with Magaqa during their ANCYL days said they welcomed the arrest.

“This is good news for us. It is a step closer to finding out the motive behind our comrade’s death,” said Malema.

The matter is being investigated by a special task team, under the management of the Hawks, set up to investigate political killings in the province. Magaqa is the eighth councillor killed in province in the last eight months.
