Brand South Africa and Brand Africa Finance have announced the ten top brands in the country from all areas of business.

The list was announced at a breakfast in Houghton, Johannesburg .

The list is as follows:

  5. Woolworths
  6. First National Bank
  7. Absa

The value of a brand is calculated by estimating future sales by a brand, and calculating a royalty rate that would be paid to the brand for its use.

The Top 50 brands in South Africa are worth a combined value of R384-billion, says Brand Finance, a growth of nearly 3%.

Telkom made the biggest jump in the top 50, moving from 23rd to 17th, while Woolworths has the strongest brand value of all.

“Commercial brands are key messengers in positioning the country competitively. At the same time, we express our appreciation to all other corporate brands in the country for your contribution to the growth and development of South Africa,” says Kingsley Makhubela, CEO of Brand South Africa.

“Many of these brands have footprints on the continent and this bodes well for perceptions about business on the continent, their ethics, governance and commitment to social upliftment.”
