The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it has evidence that the finance minister oversaw illegal spying activities during his time as the head of SARS.
National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams has given an update on the Hawks’ investigation of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
He was speaking to a National Prosecuting Authority (NPA ) briefing in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The finance Minister was asked to appear in court for prosecution on Tuesday.
Abrahams told the press that there was indeed a case against Minister Gordhan and he would be prosecuted in terms of the Law.
Abraham said that Gordhan’s recent statement while abroad that the case against him relating to ”rogue unite” was a ”political mischief” is not true.
He said no political, private and personal considerations could interfere with the case against Gordhan.
He also said that minister Gordhan was given an opportunity to State his side of how the unite was legally set up and Gordhan through his lawyers, offered his answers to questions the Hawks.
Abrahams called on the public to allow the Hawks and the NPA to conclude their investigation.
