The weekend seemed to be gruesome for Police Search and Rescue divers following their recovery of two drowned victims.

On Friday afternoon, specialist divers were called about the first incident to assist at the Umvoti River north of Durban with the search for a missing teenage boy.

Detectives from KwaDukuza would be investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death, Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

The boy’s body was pulled from the water after a brief search by divers.

A teenage girl also drowned while swimming on Saturday evening at Laguna Beach in Central Durban.

It is believed that she had taken to the surf and got herself into trouble. She was pulled from the water by lifeguards who immediately started CPR.

Gwala said that divers were called to assist at the scene.

“The Search and Rescue Unit members were called out to Laguna Beach where they recovered the body of a 16-year-old woman. The victim went missing while swimming. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigation” she said.
