Over R500 000 in cash has been recovered in Nelspruit after being stolen from a home by the domestic worker.

A Zimbabwean lady has been traced down and caught by Kempton Park police detective Frans Rafapa after fleeing to Mpumalanga from her job along with her boyfriend.

“Kempton Park police detective, Frans Rafapa travelled to Nelspruit on Tuesday after being tipped off about the domestic worker’s whereabouts” states spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali.

It has been reported that her employer traveled overseas on a business trip earlier in September  and after being paid R545 000 by his client appointed his manager to drop off the cash at his place. According to speculations, the domestic worker had seen the stupendous amount of money, took her chance and fled with the cash.

The homeowner was undoubtedly shocked to see the money and his employee missing from the house upon his return.

The 33 year old lady had confessed when the investigating officer found her in possession of about R119 800 cash of which she had already used R120 000 to buy new furniture.

Additionally, the worker bought her boyfriend a VW Polo worth R90 000 which was seized by the police on the same day.

The couple have been arrested and are due to appear court.
