South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that police are holding a man in custody after customs officials found cocaine worth R1.5 million in his luggage at OR Tambo International Airport.

Customs officials questioned the man after his flight from Lagos,Nigeria landed on Sunday.  The suspect had three different Internal passports on him with different names.

Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela said: “Initially the traveler indicated he had no luggage. Upon further questioning, the traveler admitted to being the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Lagos.”

“A thorough search and scan of the luggage that included the use of a detector dog found three smaller bags that contained cocaine worth R1.5m.”

”Also found in his possession was A Nigerian ,  South African and Brazilian international passports”, All the passports does not have the same details but bear the same passport photo”.

The traveler and the cocaine were handed over to SA Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He is expected to appear in court soon.
