Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said: “We heard that the man suddenly just jumped on the stage, he was part of the audience, and then he grabbed the microphone from the band that was playing.
He told them that he’ll stop them from playing unless he gets his cellphone; we don’t know whether it was stolen.
Police are searching for a man who shot dead one person and wounded eight others at the Hillbrow Theatre in Johannesburg on Sunday.
“When the audience protested, he just fired randomly, injuring eight people, one fatally. The man fled the scene on foot,” said Dlamini.
