A gang battle erupted outside the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday following arguments between rival gangs with gangsters pulling out guns and shooting at each other.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk told reporters that several gang members had appeared in the court on Monday in several cases.

A prominent gang member with links to the 28s was said to be among those who appeared in the Bellville court on Monday.

“At about 10:00 arguments between gangster groupings arose outside the court building,” he said.

“They then pulled firearms and shot at each other. This happened just outside the court building.”

According to sources, the shootout is believed to be linked to a much bigger gang battle.

While some sources claim that a gang member was shot in Monday’s mayhem, police have said no one was wounded.

The police spokesperson however assured that the situation is under control as SAPS members are still on the scene gathering information.

It is being speculated that members of the Josters gang, the Bad Boys gang and Sexy Boys gang were involved in the violence.

No arrests have been made so far.
