Barack Obama’s eight years in America’s most famous home are over, but that doesn’t mean the Obama family is leaving D.C. any time soon. Now that they can take a well-deserved break and escape the spotlight for a time, the Obamas have settled in D.C.’s exclusive Kalorama neighborhood, at least until youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school.

The new house may not be the White House, but it’s certainly a very white house.

These days, the true measure of a home is the kitchen, and this room is a masterpiece. I wonder if the Obamas will use it, or if they’ll have a chef cooking for them!

One of my favorite things about this house are the large window/porches looking out onto the backyard and patio. Several rooms have this feature, which lets in tons of natural light while adding an unmatched amount of character.

Ready to head upstairs?

Around the corner from the dining room and just off the kitchen, this may be one of my favorite rooms we’ve seen yet. Once again we see the large windows and glass doors, but it’s the built-ins and fireplace that make this room so cozy.

Don’t love this stylish bathroom? No worries! It’s one of nine and a half in the house…

After eight years as America’s First Family, you think you’d want somewhere to get away and just relax, and this downstairs den is the perfect answer. Imagine kicking back down here to watch the game or a movie.

But it gets even better…

Whether stocked with fine wine, sparkling water, or anything in between, this wet bar just off the den would be absolutely perfect when people are over.

The White House may be grand, but this “downsize” is truly a cozy home. I think it will be hard to leave in a few years once Sasha is at school, but who knows, maybe Barack and Michelle will be more than happy to get back to Chicago after all this time.
