Solly Tshepiso Msimanga, born 16 July 1980 is on the news again but this time for a job well done.
Immediately after the Democratic Alliance’s victory in Tshwane in the 2016 election, Msimanga was elected mayor by Tshwane City Council on its first meeting and he made it clear that Tshwane will not harbor any form of drug dealing.
Mayor Msimanga, who first joined the DA in 2006 organised a drug clean up operation in the whole of Pretoria with the help of the Hawks.
This clean up operation led to the arrest of six dangerous drug dealers that have been supplying the youths and streets of Pretoria with drugs. The arrested men is believed to be in their mid-twenties.
They were arrested by the Hawks in their hide out in Laudium – a township southwest of central Pretoria, in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. Hawks confiscated lots of drugs, money, an unregistered firearm and lots of stolen things.
Mayor Msimanga took to Social media to warn all drug dealers to stop their evil business and stay away from his city or face the wrath of the Law.
He tweeted :
”We mean it when we say drug dealers don’t belong in our city. Now in Laudium. Cleaning our city a street at time,” Msimanga said.
Msimanga who has a national diploma in marketing management and a BCompt from the University of Pretoria made headlines in September for astonishing achievements he made in his first month in Office.
Those achievements include :
- Banning blue lights.
- No more luxury cars for politicians.
- Monitored Overseas trips of all officials.
- No more extravagant parties for new executive.
- Pretoria City Hall “Nkandla 2.0”
By forming a coalition with several smaller parties, and with the support of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Msimanga was elected as the executive Mayor of Tshwane. He is the first DA member to hold the post.
He assumed office 19 August 2016.
