Congress of the People (COPE) has described African National Congress (ANC) President Jacob Zuma’s appearance before the ruling party’s Integrity Committee as disgraceful.
“No amount of spin doctoring will change the fact that the ANC president was summoned to appear before the integrity committee. Mr Zuma must go and answer very difficult questions today (Saturday). There is no doubt that his countless scandals will keep him sweating in front of this committee. It is a total disgrace that the leader of the party must appear before the integrity committee,” says COPE spokesperson Dennis Bloem.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa has confirmed that Zuma will appear before the committee on Saturday, but insists that it is not because he has brought the party into disrepute.
Kodwa says discussions between the president and the committee are expected to focus on the state of affairs in the party.
