Julius Malema leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) raised eyebrows when he recently alluded to the possibility of the EFF and ANC merging at the 2019 elections.

During an interview on eNCA’s CheckPoint, he said the EFF would consider merging with the ruling party provided they collapse Luthuli House, along with the name ANC and form a new party with its headquarters in Soweto “where our people are”.

This sent a wave of concern to ripple out among many EFF supporters, who went so far as to complain about the EFF being “a sellout” party that voted for the DA.

Just as the self-proclaimed “fighters” were busy licking their wounds from all this, top ANC politician Mzwanele Manyi  tweeted that EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu was returning to the ANC.

He used his picture and that of the EFF deputy president to garnish his post.

Mr Mzwanele Manyi later said “It was just a joke.”

Politics in South Africa has never been stranger, you never know what to expect.
