The leading opposition party in South Africa, the Democratic Alliance has revealed heavy criminal charges against Brain Molefe.
It explained that with corruption clouds hanging over his head, he is unfit for Parliament.
The Congress of the People tagged the appointment a disgrace and an insult to the Office of the Public Protector.
Molefe resigned as ESKOM CEO after being implicated in the Public Protector’s State of capture report last year.
The party adds the appointment lends credence to the claim that a cabinet reshuffle is imminent.
As the former ESKOM boss might be on his way to Parliament after the institution confirmed on Friday he will be sworn in as an MP.
The announcement has provoked speculation that Molefe would take over from Pravin Gordhan as Finance Minister in the next few weeks.
Although the Presidency has however denied the claims pending further announcement.
Parliament has confirmed he will become an ANC MP. “Parliament wishes to acknowledge the nomination of Mr Brian Molefe, to fill a vacancy on the North West list of ANC MPs, which is depleted,” said Parliament.
National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete is yet to decide the date for Molefe to be sworn in.
The ANC in North West confirmed a few weeks ago that Molefe was coming to Parliament.
