After President Zuma’s midnight cabinet reshuffle that got former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mr Jonas axed, the ANC has been in some sort of chaos.
Some top ANC officials publicly criticized the president’s actions.
There have been lots of protest for the president to resign especially from the opposition parties. The ANC seems not to be united.
The President has been barred from speaking at many occassion. Some politicians within the ANC have also called for his resignation.
The ANC on Friday called for an investigation and action by the government into leaked emails that appear to show the influence of the Gupta family on government.
Some South Africans are alleging that the state has been captured and that president zuma must resign.
The emails‚ as well as other publications‚ show links between the Gupta family and a series of government ministers and parastatal officials.
President Jacob Zuma’s son‚ a business partner of the Guptas‚ has also emerged as a key player in the emails.
ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa said;
”The African National Congress has noted with grave concern reports of allegations contained in a series of emails leaked to the media dubbed #GuptaEmails. These reports contain very worrying claims about the nature of the relationship between government and private interests. We will do whatever it takes to save our party”
ANC secretary General Gwede Mantashe said;
“The ANC views these allegations in a very serious light as if left unattended‚ they call into question the integrity and credibility of the government and the use of state resources under the direction of or to the benefit of private interests.”
ANC Treasurer General Dr. Zweli Mkhize said,
“Such matters cannot be allowed to fester in the public domain. Accordingly‚ the African National Congress calls on government to urgently seek to establish the veracity of these claims and explanation from those implicated. The ANC further reiterates the resolution of the National Executive Committee calling for the establishment of a Judicial Commission of Enquiry into allegations of state capture without delay.”
Some are alleging that the ANC is about to recall President Jacob Zuma.
During the ANC NEC meeting, the President authoritatively said that this should be the last time his resignation has to be discussed.
Also during the presidency budget vote, the opposition leader Mmusi Maimane gave SA numerous reason and chances to recall president Zuma.
