According to a press release by a DA Councillor Frank Shongwe Cllr who in Nkomazi municipality. His claiming that the ruling ANC recently employed a CFO with a questionable financial past. Details below
The ANC in Mpumalanga have once again shown the little regard they have for residents of Nkomazi Municipality after they approved the employment of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who resigned from his previous job after allegations of financial impropriety involving suspicious financial transactions.
Former CFO of Mkhondo Local Municipality, Steven Thobela, was recently employed as the new CFO of Nkomazi Municipality. According to reports, Thobela was allegedly involved in dodgy financial activities in Mkhondo where the Executive Mayor, Cllr Vusi Motha, suspended him. It is alleged that he eventually decided to tender his resignation before he was fired.
Mr Thobela’s appointment has caused divisions in the municipality due to his questionable background.
It was reported that a month after Thobela resigned from Mkhondo Municipality, Mayor Motha survived an assassination attempt for cancelling irregular tenders worst over R300 million.
The DA in Nkomazi has since submitted questions to council wanting to know why Thobela was appointed as the new CFO while he obviously has unresolved issues of professional impropiety in Mkhondo. The Speaker, Million Shongwe, only responded by saying “Thobela was under three month probation in his new employment in Nkomazi, and he was presumed innocent of any allegations until proven guilty by a court of law.”
Thobela’s appointment again proves that it is the culture of the ANC to reward corruption with a promotion or redeployment. This has been happening for years, not just in Nkomazi, but across the country.
The only hope for the people of Nkomazi, and South Africa as a whole, is to vote the ANC and its culture of corruption out of power in 2019.
When the DA takes over power in 2019, we will put an end to corruption and cadre deployment.
