According to a press release by the DA in Mantsopa Municipality, they have confirmed through their Ward Councillor Tania Halse Cllr, that the Anc lead government will be have budgeted a total of R1.2 Million on flowers.

Read Below the press release;

The DA has today written to the chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee of Mantsopa Municipality, requesting that the committee immediately probe a R1,2 million bill for flowers, incurred by the struggling municipality.

It is unfathomable, and unconscionable that a municipality which is unable to pay its Eskom debt, with roads that are in dire need of upgrades and which cannot fix water infrastructure pays R1.2 million for a frivolous item such as flowers.

The MPAC must probe:

  • The purpose of the flowers, and where they were displayed;
  • Whether supply chain management processes were followed for an expenditure exceeding R100 000.00;
  • Why flowers were purchased for so exorbitant an amount.

Unlike the ANC, where the DA governs we are committed to cutting out all unnecessary expenses to ensure that people receive quality service.
Public money should be directed toward creating jobs, upskilling people and getting our residents working – not buying unnecessary floral displays.

The people of Mantsopa deserve a government that cares, and does not waste millions on flowers for politicians.
