Former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela has taken time to reveal why crimes in South African is gradually getting out of hand.
She earned the love and respect of majority of South Africans when she fearlessly protected the country against devastating corrupt activities.
Here is her opinion on why South Africans are becoming more brutal than animals.
5. The Brutal Killing Of Young Girls.
This month firmly established the disturbing plight of what it means to be a woman in South Africa.
Many women are being attacked abused and raped.
Take a look at the three-year-old Courtney Pieters who was found in an industrial area in Cape Town. She had been raped and murdered.
Karabo Mokoena a 22-year-old woman was found dead and burned beyond recognition. She was allegedly murdered by her 27-year-old boyfriend Sandile Mantsoe.
Many young South African girls have been reported missing.
This made the former public protector to liken South Africans to animals.
She said. “We’re the most advanced species on the earth. But on the other hand, we are becoming more brutal than animals. “How many young girls have been killed in the last few days?
How many have been kidnapped? And, not just killed, (but) killed in the most brutal way imaginable.”
4. Low Quality Of Life And Injustice.
Advocate Thuli Madonsela said that South Africa will be a better place if democracy is rightly practiced and channeled towards the eradication of poor standard of living.
Democracy ought to do away with injustice in the society, she argued saying:
“If we want peace, we must ensure that democracy fosters the free potential and improved quality of life and justice for all with none left behind.
“As long as there is injustice somewhere‚ there can’t be sustainable peace anywhere,” she stressed.
3. Government Failures and Corruption.
She expressed the need to constantly protect the public from government failures and corruption.
She gave examples where South Africans are taking laws into their own hands simply because the government failed to do what it was expected to do.
For instance, the recent xenophobic crisis the country experienced was severely blamed on government failure to deal with the problem of illegal immigrants.
It is widely believed that illegal immigrants are the perpetrators or drug and human trafficking crimes in the country. The government failures and corruption problem is better captured in Mandonsela’s words.
She said “we are having growing governance failures including systemic service failure and corruption. We are having growing societal polarisation, Coligny is one of those examples.”
2. Civil Apathy
South Africans are increasingly discarding their interest and concern for South Africa and it’s not good for the country.
Thuli said the increasing “unhealthy levels of civil apathy” is unhealthy for South Africa. It can only create a platform for brutality to thrive.
1. A Derailed South Africa.
South Africa is a derailed country and it is helping South Africans become more brutal than animals. “This is not the South Africa of our dreams. What is unfolding is South Africa derailed,” said the former public protector.
She said that hope is everything. “The South Africa of our dreams is in our hands. Whatever we do‚ let’s make sure that we do it with integrity.
“It is important that we restore justice in the world and ensure social justice. We must find a way to bridge the gap of inequality and poverty,” Thuli Madonsela inspired.
