Bafana Bafana have managed to cling to 60th place on the latest FIFA men’s rankings, which were released on Thursday.
South Africa’s coach-less international team are yet to play in 2017 and will not take part in the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon after failing to qualify.
North African powerhouses Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria complete the top five slots on the African continent.
Argentina are the No 1-ranked side in the world followed by neighbours and Olympics champions Brazil who sit on number two.
Germany, Chile and Belgium complete the top five slots in the world rankings.
A lot of changes are expected in the coming months in Africa as a result of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.
