Former South African Rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen has been confirmed dead after batteling with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This news was sent out by his foundation some hours ago.

Below is what they said;

“The family remain strong under the circumstances, however are devastated at the loss. This is a great loss to so many around the world and the family would like to extend their greatest gratitude for the love and support shown over this difficult time.”

Van der Westuizen was one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous Green and Gold jersey, being capped 89 times. At the time of his retirement he held the then Springbok try scoring record of 38 tries.
