Dear Ontla,

The medics gave you 13 years or 14 at most to stay with us. You added 4 more years. You fought and stayed till 18. You left to heaven as an adult.

You came to this world unique. You came special as the first recorded black child to be born with the aging disease. Your mere existence raised our awareness about Progeria syndrome. You illuminated our world and pushed us to search for better solutions to ease the condition that you endured with so much grace and candour.
The medics gave you 13 years or 14 at most to stay with us. You added 4 more years. You fought and stayed till 18. You left to heaven as an adult.
Your demise pricks us that we still have a lot to think, to create, to innovate in treating or managing such gene mutation and many other health conditions that hurt humanity.
The world misses you.
Rest in peace Ontlametse Phalatse.
