Two Democratic Alliance (DA) members in Kwazulu-Natal have defected to the ANC because “there was no place for coloureds” in the party.
On Monday morning, the ANC in the province announced that DA ward councillor Clive Otis Lots and Merle Clayton Williams‚ both from the Pietermaritzburg region‚ would be returning to the ANC.
They were members of the ANC before crossing the floor a few years ago to join the DA.
Loots said there was no place for coloureds in the DA while Williams said she went to the DA blinded.
Williams explained that she had left the ANC because she was frustrated but those problems had been addressed.
ANC provincial deputy chairman Willies Mchunu said more defections are expected.
