The women has set aside today Wednesday to embark on a National shutdown on Wednesday as a show of strength against gender-based violence.
They are urged to stay away from work, avoid any economic-related activities and join the march near them.
Spokesperson for Western Cape Total Shutdown, Nozi Samela says the march will start at 9 am from CPUT campus and move to Parliament to hand over a memorandum.
“We as women of South Africa, we believe that in this women’s month and the women’s day celebrated on the 9th of August we have nothing to celebrate because every day we are persecuted.”
“South African has five times the world rate of femicide so we are saying it is enough, we are fed up.”
Samela says the women ministry and the justice system of this country has failed women in South Africa.
Participants have been asked to wear black, with a touch of red to show solidarity.
