The minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba have revealed that its not possible to give the huge number illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe more paper to stay.

He said this on Tuesday, saying that the Zimbabwean Special Dispensation Permit (ZSP) which allowed around 197,000 of them to leave in SA could not be continued and would need to be discontinued after which they will have to apply for visa and permits just like any other country. The said ZSP is due to expire by the end of this year and cannot be renewed.

“We can’t offer permanent residency for such a high number of people,” warned Gigaba, adding that this would set a precedence of permanency.
