Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has grabbed a new job in the academic world.
She has been offered a chair in Stellenbosch University’s law faculty, where she is expected to handle social justice.
The university stated that Madonsela’s role in the institution will include teaching and research and that she will be involved in civil society initiatives.
Sending across an acceptance message, Thuli said she looked forward to working with young minds in the university.
“I hope to work with my colleagues at the law faculty to play our part in accelerating the pace of achieving the constitutional promise of an inclusive society based on social justice‚ shared prosperity‚ friendship and peace. I am also looking forward to working with young people at the university and beyond on these matters.”
Currently, the former Public Protector is on sabbatical. She will resume duties at her new place of work in 2018; when her sabbatical leave ends.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura thanked the advocate for never forgetting how important her role is and holding government accountable. ANC spokesperson also admitted that Thuli saved the party from itself; adding that Thuli kept a civil tongue and a level head while her battle with President Jacob Zuma lasted.
United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa said Madonsela Thuli did exceptionally well in performing her duties. Dali Mpofu, the national chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters, added that Madonsela displayed great leadership abilities.
In conclusion, DA’s John Mulder praised her for remaining ‘dignified’ and ‘humble’ throughout her term.
