The DA has pressed criminal charges against outgoing Eskom CEO Brian Molefe, saying people have been given free reign to abuse public FUND for too long.
DA MP Natasha Mazzone laid the charges based on the preliminary evidence published in former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s ‘State of Capture’ report.
The charges relate to several acts, including the Public Finance Management Act.
“For too long people in positions of power have been given free rein to abuse public money with impunity,” says the Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises. “The PP’s report details the close relationship between Mr Molefe and how key decisions were taken by Molefe, as the head of Eskom, for the ultimate benefit of the Gupta’s and at the expense of the people of South Africa.”
Mazzone says Molefe has apparently “violated procurement procedures”, and has also failed to root out and halt corruption at Eskom, specifically with the Gupta-owned Tegeta.
“The DA will not stand by while state machinery and money is used to benefit a small Zuma-aligned political click,” she asserts.
Earlier this week, the DA leader Mmusi Maimane laid charges against President Jacob Zuma himself, calling on the Hawks to investigate the claims laid out in the state capture report.
