The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it’s in the process of consulting its legal team to determine whether former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s recent appointment is irregular, unlawful and irrational.
On Tuesday, the public broadcaster announced Motsoeneng had been appointed as group executive for corporate affairs.
This after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a ruling in which Motsoeneng’s permanent appointment as COO was unlawful.
The party says it will march to the SABC offices against Motsoeneng’s appointment
Spokesperson Mabine Seabe says, “Hlaudi Motsoeneng should not be serving in any capacity at the SABC and it does undermine the Public Protector and the judiciary. As such, the DA will be leading a protest at the SABC’s headquarters on Monday.”
Public Protector advocate Thuli Madonsela says Motsoeneng should not have been appointed to another senior position at the SABC while there’s still an ongoing investigation into his conduct
Madonsela said there were many allegations against him and the SABC board didn’t hold him accountable.
“There is this other investigation that is taking place with all sorts of accusations against him. It would be improper then to give him a position while that cloud has not been cleared.”
