There are lots of ideas on what to do when faced with a scenario where you find yourself trapped in a fire but are those effective?
The sad thing is that some people lose lives because they simply don’t know what to do. Some make the situation even worse because of panic.
A forensic scientist who has a deep understanding of how fires spread, Dr David Klatzow shares tips on how to handle the situation to avoid fatalities in fires.
“Have a planned escape route. In a case where a house is burglar-barred, at least have the keys near at hand or where everybody in the whole family is aware of them.”
“Have firefighting equipment in the house. It is not that expensive to have a fire extinguisher in the house these days.”
Do not go back in to rescue anything unless it’s a human. People get killed when going back into the fire because of the smoke and the toxic nature of the gases produced in the fire.
“Time is of essence you have to get out of there as soon as you can..’ he said
