A police detective and four other men have been arrested in Bishop Lavis for the possession of stolen vehicles and prohibited firearms.

Officers were trying to trace a stolen vehicle when they approached a house in nearby Montana and the suspects fled.

Three of the men were apprehended and a prohibited firearm was found in the possession of one of them. Another suspect who fled on foot was also arrested.

Police spokesperson, Frederick van Wyk says officers confiscated four firearms and two stolen vehicles:

“With the guidance of the helicopter the members pulled the Nissan over in Valhalla Park and apprehended the driver, a 36 year old man. It was established that he is an off duty detective driving an official saps vehicle and he also had an official radio in his possession.

Upon searching the residence the members found a bank note counting machine, pellet and toy guns and a crowbar.”
