Students of Walter Sisulu University have embarked on yet another protest leading to the indefinite evacuation and shutting down of the campus.

The students who organised the protest did not hesitate to set alight a building. They are of the view that they have to register for the current session  despite  debt  owed the University from previous academic session.

The University management on its part is maintaining a contrary view, reasoning that the institution is already suffering from unpaid debt running into millions and if it continues to be lenient, the debt could run into billions of Rand.

However, the University spokesperson Yonela Tukwayo  reveals that the campus will be under lock and key until engagement with the students’ representatives proves successful. According to him “Nobody is remaining on campus”.

It should be recalled that few months ago students from tertiary institutions across the country staged a massive protest which culminated in the trending #FeesMustFall.

The previous protest got violent, such that some students were taken to court on charges bordering on disruption and inciting of violence.
