A 14-year-old boy was in critical condition after being shot twice in the back on his way back from school in Broadlands, Strand, on Wednesday.
He was treated for two gunshot wounds after an apparent shootout, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.
His body was found lying on the sidewalk covered in blood.

His elder siblings (brother and sister) fled the scene during the alleged shootout. He was the youngest, he had no idea where to run to. Two bullets allegedly caught him.
His elder brother carried him back to the school where a helicopter took him to Tygerberg Hospital in Bellville, Cape Town for urgent treatment.
He was pronounced dead on getting to the hospital.
Western Cape police confirmed a shooting took place at about 02:30.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said an investigation is going on.
No arrests has been made.
