Police in the Eastern Cape, KwaNobuhle; yesterday the 20th December 2016, impounded an unroadworthy vehicle during a#SaferFestiveSeason operation in KwaNobuhle.
Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga stopped a vehicle for excessive noise in one of the busiest malls in KwaNobuhle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, operating as a local taxi (jikeleza), several major defects were identified and pointed out by the Provincial Commissioner, such as absence of a licence disc, tampered engine number and a makeshift plastic petrol tank mounted in the engine compartment. An enquiry docket was opened and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
A 24-year-old driver was fined for driving an unroadworthy vehicle and for driving a vehicle without a licence. During the operation 18 additional traffic fines were issued valued R 9 000.
