Recently, some South African soccer players have been caught breaking the law in one way or the other. Most of them have been arrested for drunk driving, speeding, making out in cars, gambling and beating up their female partners.
Thamsanqa Gabuza allegedly struck his girlfriend with an electric iron.
Thamsanqa Gabuza is a South African footballer who now plays as a striker for Penang FA in the Malaysia Super League.
According to a report in Sunday Sun, the former Orlando Pirates striker Thamsanqa Gabuza, lost his temper and beat up his girlfriend, Boitshoko Tala, at his Sandton home.
Tala reportedly called the police, who arrested the player and locked him in the holding cells at Sandton Police Station.
She allegedly opened a case of common assault.
According to the paper, the charge sheet details that Gabuza used an electric iron to strike the young woman following an argument about phone calls she was receiving.
The police confirmed that a “soccer player” had been arrested and was released on bail later that night.
He was still a Pirates player when he when this incident happened. Pirates said they would not comment on players’ private lives.
