A young Port Elizabeth man’s passion for martial arts has helped him land a suspected burglar in police custody.
The 21-year-old suspect was caught trespassing and trying to break an entry on a property early in the morning, but was caught and dealt with by the owner’s 18-year-old son.
The son, a karate enthusiast, overpowered the hammer and firearm-wielding intruder with his skills, says the SAPS.
“PE Flying Squad and Walmer police immediately responded when the call came through to them,” says Colonel Priscilla Naidu. “ It was later discovered that the ‘firearm’ produced was a toy gun.”
The suspect is awaiting trial on charges of trespassing, pointing of a firearm and possession of a housebreaking tools.
