The Hawks say it has dealt a severe blow to an illegal roadworthy certificate syndicate in Belhar.

The syndicate produced illegal roadworthy certificates and helped issue police clearances.

Nearly R5,3 million in cash has also been seized along with two vehicles.

A suspect will appear in court tomorrow.

The Hawks’ Lloyd Ramovha says: “On Sunday morning the Hawks anti-corruption team in the Western Cape arrested a 33-year-old suspect for money laundering, fraud and racketeering. The suspect was arrested at his Belhar home.”

Ramovha adds further arrests could be made as the investigation continues.
