Four people were killed and approximately fourteen others injured last night following a collision involving a taxi and light motor vehicle on the N4 highway, approximately 10km outside of Witbank.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 19h00 to find the taxi and light motor vehicle on the side of the road. Several people were found lying around the two vehicles.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two women and a man had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.
Approximately 15 other patients were found on the scene. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one woman was in a critical condition while fourteen others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, the critically injured succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead.
It is understood the taxi had collided with a female pedestrian. Once the taxi had come to a stop, the passengers began to climb out of the vehicle when they were hit by another light motor vehicle.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
