The Economic Freedom Fighter’s (EFF) national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has lambasted Wits Vice Chancellor Adam Habib and entire management; for leading a referendum seeking students’ opinion on school resumption.
Ndlozi, a Wits alumni, slammed the Habib’s poll which reads: “Should Wits open on Mon 3 Oct subject to appropriate security protocols being in place? Reply with yes or no.”
The fighter likened Habib’s poll to Hitler and Apartheid; adding that the VC wants to turn the tertiary institution into a police state.
“The point is not the ‘vote’! The point is ‘policy’! The #WitsPoll, like Apartheid & Hitler, is Fascist, it’s about securitisation of campus,” he stated.
Ndlozi reminded the VC that “A vice chancellor who wants security to run his university & order his own students does not deserve his job!”
In a bid to curb the rate at which students are harshly mishandled in the ongoing #FeesMustFall campaign; the EFF on Thursday passed a motion during a City of Johannesburg council meeting; to have Johannesburg Metro Police officers withdrawn from campuses.
This comes after the University of Johannesburg’s private security personnel beat up students and journalists during a protest on Wednesday.
The motion has subsequently been adopted and implemented.
However, well-meaning South Africans, including president Jacob Zuma have called on Universities to kindly resume for the continuation of this year’s academic session, as further closure will ruin the future of the students.
