Members of a Meyerton family are furious after finding out that their supposedly deceased daughter and sister is still alive, after mourning her death for nearly a week.

According to the Democratic Alliance’s Gauteng Shadow MEC for Health, Jack Bloom, Tracy Palesa Hugo had been declared dead at Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging. She suffered a stroke earlier in the week.

The deceased family was bewildered to find her living and undergoing treatment in a ward at the facility after the Hospital pronounced her dead.

The family, says Bloom, was told by a nurse that Tracy’s body “had already been wrapped for removal after being declared dead”, but that was obviously not the case.

“The Hugo family are immensely traumatized by what has happened and want to sue the hospital,” says Bloom.

“They suffered for five days grieving over Tracy’s death when she was still alive.”

While family members are surely relieved to be reunited with their beloved Tracy, the DA MPL says that this inexcusable negligence must be investigated.
