According to SAPS, Five suspects have been killed in a shootout with members of the Hawks on the N2 Freeway between Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach.

They were acting on a tip off that a group of robbers were driving from the Eastern Cape to Durban. They found the suspects on Monday and tried to stop them.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly ignored warnings to stop. And with that, the occupants opened fire on the members. That, resulted into a shootout and a high speed chase.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says:

“None of our members were injured during that incident, and currently we are still trying to ascertain whether this group was involved in any other criminal activity.”
