Hinnews.com is sad to confirmed that actor Dumi Masilela spent the night fighting for his life in hospital after being shot during an attempted hijacking in Tembisa on Wednesday night.

The Rhythm City actor was parked on a road in the area with a friend when they were approached by a black jeep. They tried to flee but a chase ensued.

e.tv spokesperson, Michael Pocock confirmed that Masilela passed away. “It is with great sadness that e.tv confirms the passing of Dumi Masilela,” said Pocock.

“They tried to drive off but the black jeep followed and the occupants opened fire. He (Masilela) was shot in the upper body,” police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said.

His friend who was in the car with him rushed the actor to hospital where he spent the night fighting for his life. Officials confirmed he died this morning.

Gauteng police said they are now searching for the perpetrators.

“We are investigating a case of murder and attempted hijacking. Two men (including Masilela) were sitting in a white Golf 7 last night when they were approached by a black Jeep who tried hijack them. The two occupants in the Golf tried to drive off and one of them was shot,” said Makhubele.

 

After Masilela was wounded he pulled over and his friend then drove him to hospital, where he died on Thursday morning.

The actor was married to Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema and the two had become media darlings as their romance blossomed.

The Department of Arts and Culture expressed its deepest condolences to Masilela’s family, friends and colleagues.

Tributes also poured in on social media.

On Wednesday, South Africa also mourned the death of Kwaito star Tsekeleke.

Also on Wednesday, one Member of Parliament (MP), Timothy Khoza, died in a car accident with three more MPs injured in the same accident.
